With wealth disparity only growing greater, technological despair looming large, upsurges in populism, and increasingly cynical attitudes amongst certain substrates of young professionals, the 80s are back in the most farcical way possible. In view of this, please join us to discuss Barbara Ehrenreich's cult classic sociological exploration of how the rise of austerity politics, the hollowing out of labor and social programs, and other manifestations of late capitalism and its attendant ideologies pushed the logic of both the middle class and populism rightward.

Participants should be willing to read the book and discuss it in good faith.
